The claim has been submitted.
The next action sits with another party.
At certain stages of the OIC process, the next action belongs to another party — the insurer, the medical expert, or the portal. The claimant has already submitted the relevant information.
After submission — liability response period
The insurer reviews the claim and determines their position on responsibility for the accident.
After the claim is submitted through the portal, the insurer has 30 working days to respond with a formal liability position. The insurer reviews the claim and determines their position on responsibility for the accident.
The 30 working day window runs from the date of submission. The portal records the submission date.
If the 30 working day period passes without a response, the portal records a non-response.
After the medical examination — report production period
The medical expert prepares the report within the MedCo system.
After the medical examination takes place, the medical expert prepares the report. The report records the injury and the prognosis period. The report is prepared within the MedCo system and returned through that system to the portal, where it is made available for review before approval.
There is no portal-defined window for report production. The timeframe is determined by the medical expert and the MedCo system.
If the report is not produced and returned, the delay falls outside the defined process.
After a counter-offer is submitted — insurer response period
The insurer reviews the response and determines their position.
After a counter-offer is submitted through the portal, the insurer reviews the response and determines their position. The process allows a limited number of offer and counter-offer exchanges.
There is no portal-defined window for the insurer's response between exchanges.
If no response is received, the process moves outside its expected structure.
When the process moves outside its defined timeframes
Each period above has a defined boundary.
If the 30 working day period passes without a response, the portal records a non-response.
If the report is not produced and returned, the delay falls outside the defined process.
If no response is received to a counter-offer, the process moves outside its expected structure.
What the process provides for at that point is set out on the problems with your claim page.
